I just wanted to stop by and check on y’all, coz the whole “CORONA VIRUS” thing has got me a little paranoid!
Hey Everyone! I hope y’all are doing great! Well, keeping in mind the crazy “sunny” adversities, I guess, it’s time for some “Summer Relief” to be discussed in our weekly Healthy Food Series!
Water – is an integral part of our lives, making it impossible to live without! For centuries, medicinally, water has been advocated as the best natural detox available to mankind. Water carries nutrients to our cells, aids digestion by forming stomach secretions, flushes our bodies of wastes, and keeps our kidneys healthy. It also keeps our moisture-rich organs (skin, eyes, mouth and nose) performing well, it lubricates and cushions our joints, and regulates our body temperature and our metabolism.
Hello Everyone! Welcome to the Healthy Food Series yet again! *Happy Tuesday*

Well guess what! We’ve successfully completed 4+ months of Healthy Food Series and I am super stoked about the success rate! From talking about “super foods” to actually evaluating the “real food benefits” – This ride has been fun!
Well, carrying on with the ritual of mindful eating habits and living a healthy life, here comes my latest post to a “healthful lifestyle” that not only keeps you appraised with the newest food trends but also helps you lose those extra pounds and (this time) break some myths!
It is completely fabricated that weight gain/loss is all about willpower, or making a “choice” to do this or that. In reality – Obesity is a very complex disorder with dozens, if not hundreds of contributing factors. There are numerous genetic variables that have been shown to associate with obesity, and various medical conditions (hypothyroidism, PCOS, depression) that can increase the risk of weight gain. In addition, the body also has numerous hormones and biological pathways that are supposed to regulate body weight. These tend to be dysfunctional in people with obesity, making it much harder to lose weight and keep it off.
For example, being resistant to the hormone “leptin” is a major known cause of obesity. The leptin signal is supposed to tell your brain that it has enough fat stored. When the leptin isn’t managing to deliver its signal, the brain thinks that you are starving. Hence, provoking you to eat! Trying to exert “willpower” and consciously eating less in the face of the leptin-driven starvation signal is extremely challenging, if not impossible for many people.
Understand that, eating is driven by behavior, and behavior is driven by physiology and biochemistry and everything is not as plain as it looks.
Of course, this doesn’t mean that you should just give up and accept your genetic fate! Losing weight is still possible, it is just much, much harder for some people.

Well guess what! We’ve successfully completed 3 months of Healthy Food Series and I am super stoked about the success rate! 9 super interesting and knowledgeable posts, with close to 1400 likes and 110 comments – Guys, we are on a roll! “Healthy Living” has never been this brilliant! Well, carrying on with the ritual of mindful eating habits and living a healthy life, here comes my latest post to a “healthful lifestyle” that not only keeps you appraised with the newest food trends but also helps you lose those extra pounds and (this time) break some myths!
There is no doubt about it , that as the first meal you eat in the morning, breakfast sets the tone for the rest of your day. Despite this, an estimated 31 million people skip breakfast every morning (NPD, 2011), with most saying they are too busy or just do not feel hungry. People sometimes erroneously believe that skipping breakfast is a good way to cut extra calories from their diet! (If only so!) Disastrously, this plan often backfires.
So what makes breakfast so important? One reason that breakfast is a critical meal is that it jump-starts your metabolism early in the day. The amount of time that passes between dinner and the first meal of the morning is the longest your body typically goes without any food. Eating right away implements your body with energy that controls your metabolism for the rest of the day (Consumer Reports, 2015). Additionally, people who skip breakfast tend to have increased levels of “ghrelin”, a hormone that has been associated with hunger. This may cause you to feel hungrier later in the morning, leading to overeating or an energy crash.
A healthy breakfast is a simple formula – complex carbohydrates plus protein plus fruit. Regarding complex carbohydrates – consider making steel-cut oats, buckwheat pancakes, whole-grain toast, bran cereal, oat bran muffins, or muesli. Then, add a source of protein (eggs, yogurt, a glass of milk, a protein smoothie, peanut or almond butter, or cottage cheese). Finally, add a piece of fruit to round out your meal. Walah! Get-set-go for an awesome “fully charged” day!
