Sunday Stills : Tourist

Hey Everyone! I hope y’all are doing wonderful!

Welcome to Terri’s Photo Challenge : Sunday Stills. Yet another day and another exciting prompt. Thank God for this, I miss WPC a little less!

This week’s theme is “TOURIST” and in all honesty, I have been guilty of being a “perfect” tourist all my life! Yes, I have been one of the exasperating ones, who’ll click pictures wherever and whenever – not wanting to miss a “photogenic” opportunity! (Sadly, this involves my Huz too, who doesn’t have much of a choice left!) *hides face* Presenting to you all some “photographic memories” of US being “touristy” from our trip to Chicago. Also, please know that this post will be an overload of pictures – you now know why!

THE GENTLEMEN STATUES IN CHICAGO – a series of installed statues created by renowned Taiwanese sculptor Ju Ming and purchased by Great Eagle Holdings, the parent company of Langham Hospitality Group. The original artwork, prominently displayed as a permanent fixture on the AMA Plaza, is part of Ju’s “Living World Series,” featuring eleven bronze plated figures draped in trench jackets and holding umbrellas.

(In the background) THE ABRAHAM LINCOLN STATUE IN CHICAGO – Seward Johnson created this statue. It was added to Michigan Avenue right before the 2016 Presidential Election. The statue depicts Lincoln explain the meaning of the Gettysburg address to modern society.

(In the background) CADILLAC PALACE THEATER- The Palace Theatre opened at the corner of Randolph and LaSalle Streets in Chicago on October 4, 1926. Designed by legendary theater architects the Rapp Brothers, the theater originally opened as the flagship of vaudeville’s legendary Orpheum Circuit, and among the stars believed to have played the Palace in its early years are Jimmy Durante, Mae West, Sophie Tucker, Jack Benny and Bob Hope.

NAVY PIER – Originally completed in 1916 as part of Daniel Burnham’s plan for Chicago, Navy Pier is an iconic city landmark inspiring discovery and wonder. Since its reopening in 1995, more than 180 million visitors have come to enjoy the Pier’s 50 acres of unparalleled attractions and experiences.

PLAZA OF THE AMERICAS AND BENITO JUAREZ SCULPTURE – This park was dedicated in 1963 by the then Mexican consulate general in honor of member countries with the Organization of American States [OAS] .. There are flags for each OAS member country in the plaza. The park’s other feature is a bronze statue of Mexico’s first president Benito Juarez. Chicago, like back when the plaza was dedicated, boasts a large Chicano population, including those who share Juarez’s Native American heritage.

THE CHICAGO PICASSO – Standing 50 feet tall and weighing over 160 tons, the Chicago Picasso in Daley Plaza is much more than just artwork to Chicagoans. The untitled Picasso sculpture that originally sparked controversy in the city has now become one of Chicago’s most famous sculptures and beloved icons.

So there you have it folks –  A glimpse of “Architectural Chicago” through the eyes of a curious “TOURIST!”
