Sunday Stills : Drunk With

Hey Everyone! I hope y’all are doing wonderful!

Welcome to Terri’s Photo Challenge : Sunday Stills. Yet another day, another exciting prompt and a “perfect” WPC substitution!

This week’s theme is “DRUNK WITH” and surprisingly (in all honesty) I had a bucked-load of pictures to choose from in this genre! *hides face*
Ignoring all the photos that I wasn’t really proud of (for obvious reasons), I present to y’all my “drunk with” session with Mr. Jack at the famous Jack Daniel’s Distillery! An experience to cherish and treasure – This place is a must-visit for anyone with an appreciation for the World’s No 1 American Whiskey and all things Southern.

Sampling In Session – After touring the distillery, you’ll head to the tasting room in historic Barrelhouse 1-14 and taste whiskey drawn from individual barrels, an honor that was once reserved exclusively for the distillers and tasters!

Sampling of five kinds of Jack Daniel’s whiskey – Old No.7 Tennessee Whiskey, Gentleman Jack, Single Barrel, Tennessee Fire and Tennessee Honey. From just “plain whiskey drinkers” to “enriched whiskey connoisseurs”, this tour was an impressive and exciting encounter with the best!

Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Select – meticulously crafted and beautifully stacked! In the words of the makers –“Crafting something that endures for over 150 years takes time and character. You’ll find plenty of both in the people and history that make Jack Daniel’s.”

Jack On The Rocks! The “main man” aka Jasper Newton “Jack” Daniel! A physically diminutive man only five feet two inches tall, Jack Daniel devoted his out-sized personality to the ideal of making a whiskey that, thanks to charcoal filtering and other factors, he could be proud to sell at a premium price!

The Cave Spring –  It is Lynchburg’s greatest natural lime stone spring water resource and it is from here the magically delicious Jack Daniel’s water comes from, iron free and at constant 56 degrees! (One of the main reasons as to why the distillery still remains at this site).

Where the “magic” happens – the Milling Plant, where three grains (corn, barley, rye) are combined in a ratio that Mr. Daniel’s developed originally (long-long time back!) It is here that the grain combination is ground, mixed with water from the nearby spring, and some previous fermented stillage is added to begin the fermentation process anew. This mixture is known as “mash” or “sour mash” and it is subsequently cooked in the Fermentation Tanks(The leftover “grain mash” is sold to the farmers for livestock fodder, breeding some of the most happiest cows in the World!)

Within the American White Oak Whiskey barrels the whiskey is allowed to mature for at least four years “until it’s ready” by taste (You can see the barrel house in the background in this picture). The period of maturity varies, depending on where the barrel is located in the large storage facility (those closer to the ceiling tend to be ready more quickly than those near the floor – Thanks to Mother Nature and Father Time!) These barrels impart most of the flavor and all of the color to the whiskey (from originally being just plain colorless to the beautiful amber!) Just so you know, the barrels are not reused by Jack Daniel’s again. They are either sold to distilleries in Scotland or Ireland or are used as decorative items – pens, bars, bar stools, planters, tables etc.

So there you have it folks – My version of “drunk with” Mr. Jack! Click here to know more about this exciting trip of mine.

  2. I love this!! Thank you so much for sharing – I’m a JD drinker, and collector of random JD goodies, so I think it would be amazing to do this tour. Shame I’m in the UK. Great photo share! 🙂

    1. I agree – came as a shocker to me too! Actually the site was under renovation when we went, hence a “far-way” picture of the barrel store house! Hopefully, it’s been repaired now.
