Give Yourself Time

Fascinating, enthralling, prismatic – that’s how we see a butterfly. With colours and patterns so extraordinarily exquisite, a butterfly is a display to be smitten with and admire. But, was a butterfly always so beauteous? Was it always so beckoning?
Well, I used to think I knew how caterpillars become butterflies. You know, going through the regular process of metamorphosis – they weave cocoons around them, then sit inside growing six long legs, four wings, and so on, before emerging as a beautiful, winged creature. Well, as it turns out – I was so WRONG!

FACTS

Did you know that inside of the cocoon, the caterpillar completely digests itself??

Well, one day, the caterpillar stops eating, hangs upside down from a twig or leaf and spins itself a silky cocoon or molts into a shiny chrysalis. Within this protective casing, the caterpillar radically transforms its body into a melted “goo” of nutritive enzymes and imaginal discs (containing specific DNA-coded instructions), eventually emerging as a butterfly.
Imagine, the caterpillar was already born with the “cellular-data” to create a butterfly, maintaining an integral sense of self, even when it had to metamorphose into something gross! *Phew*

If you’ve ever been through an extensive life progression, this may sound familiar. We, as humans do it, too – not physically but psychologically. And that’s the beauty of life – we’re not meant to stay the same!

GOOD NEWS

Two years ago I was misplaced and distracted – changing countries, marital status and job profile, all at once! And the misery was too much for me to bear! With everything changing so quickly around me, I was confused and dazed. Aimless and unguided, I was lost at my own space, damning my very existence. Totally on edge. Really irritable. Often hysterical! Well, life did not go my way (or so I’d thought!)

Thankfully, things changed for good! Post some dark clouds and silver linings, with abounding struggles and exertion – 2017 seemed like a year of dreams! Now I am living a meaningful, mindful life, where I have a loving family to get home to, a wonderful husband to take care of and a blog that I can work upon. Imagine, from living a lack-luster life, to having a website of my own! Shaking off old fears and limiting beliefs to fully stepping into my bliss. (It was meant to be!)

This got me into thinking folks and I came to the realization of “how beautiful things take time.” Yes, I have been transformed, and I believe it is a perfect call for each of us – to allow this transformation to take place.
We all , obviously, will have completely different changes and transformations and our life will have its own limitations and shortcomings. But just like the caterpillar, we might have to become a butterfly “goo” first, unattractive and unseemly. It’s part of the process. It’s the breakdown before the breakthrough. The storm before the rainbow. The dark before dawn. All you need is a little patience and some time for the “life mysteries” to play.

Now, I agree that it’s not as easy as it sounds! Indeed for us humans it can be hell on wheels. Hesitation, uncertainty, reservation – just a few emotions to begin with. The trick however is to “spend more time by yourself!”
When your life is changing in profound ways – when you’re changing – don’t forget to create that “cocoon” for yourself – meditate, take a break, write a journal, love yourself, walk in nature, listen to music, dance, confide in a friend, eat healthy, work out and lastly, remind yourself that somethings happen for a reason and sometimes, we need to just trust “in the bigger plan” and believe that everything is going to be OK! Acknowledge the “gooey mess” as part of your transformation. Wrap yourself up in a cocoon of love, and trust the process.

Take as much time as you want inside that “cocoon” of yours and when the opportunity is right, just like the butterfly “flutter away!” Give yourself the time you need, allow the new you to burst forth. Believe in your beauty. Believe in your wings. Emerge, and let yourself fly!

“Stop beating yourself up. You are a work in progress, which means you get there a little at a time, not all at once.”

Wrapping you all in my “cocoon” of appreciation!

  8. This is so very true. Many years ago, l was in a hip to toe plaster for a leg injury, and one of my doctors seeing my impatience at having to lug this thing around with me everywhere l went simply wrote on the cast one day TTT aka Things Take Time.

We live in a overly fast hectic world, but the three T’s are exactly the same as your GYT – it’s the one thing we never do. we all need to stop for a while at times and step off the planet, it still swings around at its own pace whether we are there or not. But sometimes, we need to remind ourselves that thing do take time and we need to be able to give ourselves the freedom of thought to allow it.

    Excellent post. 🙂

    1. Absolutely, spot on! Everything takes time, all we need is patience and trust!💕

I reckon a lot of us are scared of change,
I for one have tried resisting change but eventually I realised it was for my own good
So sometimes we just have to tighten up the belt and be brave enough to go through the metamorphosis.
I’m glad your in a much better & happier place in your life rn. 💕
