Ugly Dolls – Three Line Tales

"One ticket please" muttered Betty nervously,
pointing out at the train schedule with her trembling little fingers;
her voice as precarious as her irresolute future,
her "despicable-ugly" face hidden behind a frail veil.

"You goin' to Uglyville, eh?" mocked the indifferent conductor;
seemingly cognizant of the new legislation passed by the King
about all the unwanted-redundant "Ugly Dolls" of the town.

Betty nodded a desperate yes,
as she grasped the "one-way ticket" to her deliverance;
a ticket to a hopeful place
where weirdness is celebrated,
strangeness is special and
beauty is embraced as more than what meets the eye!

PS – The inspiration for this short-story of mine comes from an animated movie (UglyDoll) directed by Kelly Asbury and written by Blaise Hemingway, Erica Rivinoja, and Larry Stuckey, to be released on May 10, 2019 by STX Entertainment.

  1. Every person is beautiful in her or his own way. Each of us is a special creation in the eyes and mind of God. Life should allow celebration of our differences. Good thoughts. 🙂

  2. Argh society can be such a judge.

    Poor Betty having to leave because they didn’t accept her uniqueness, it’s a sad tale of how cruel life and people can be sometimes.

      1. That’s quite unfortunate, even though she has every right to be here.
        Society just tends to mess with the notion of what is acceptable and what is not, sad but painful true.

        1. Sadly , yes! 🙁

          Reminded me of this quote –

          “When you see people only as personalities, rather than souls with life missions to fulfill, you forever limit the growth and possibilities of what God has in store for another person.”

    1. I agree! There is always a “safe” place for the odd one’s out! The question is how soon can we find it! 😉

      Thank you so much for reading sweetheart!❤️

  3. The poem made me sad at the beginning but in the end it made me smile. At least she’ll go where she’s accepted. Wonderful tale! ❤️
