Soothing My Senses With Sense8

Yay! After a long wait, the world of Sense8 is finally back! Even though, instead of being a whole “full-blown” season (which I would have obviously preferred), The Wachowskis had to wrap it all up in just “two and a half hours season finale!” Nevertheless, I am just glad that it finally happened and the fans (like me) got the closure that we so wanted. (Only wish – If only it could go on for ever!) *bittersweet*

Well, it’s amazing how you sometimes associate so “in person” with some of the TV shows and they actually feel like a “real” part of you – may be because, somewhere deep down inside you are looking for your own “sensate” to reach out to or may be, you believe in “miracles” that could save this world one day? Whatever may be the reason, I have to admit, that I, never have been so impacted by any other series, as much as I am with Sense8. Confession – YES, I AM A BIG SENSE8 FAN!

For the ones who don’t know what the Sense8 “hullabaloo” about – It is a Netflix original series that features eight different characters, who can communicate with each other – emotionally and physically. This show has a very simple foundation that is equally enticing and controversial at the same time. Well, what is so gratifying about this show and its idea to link eight different lives together – is how it brings together all different kinds of people from all over the world and from all different walks of life. It is so satisfying to enjoy a show that has a true craving to bring diversity to a world that can, at times, seem so hopeless to change.

If you have not already immersed yourself into their world, let me bring it to you with 4 reasons on why you should watch Sense8 on Netflix.

1 UNITY IN DIVERSITY

Nothing beats the “diversity quotient” that this show has! The characters represent different orientations, genders, races, religions, and in all honesty, this may be the only diverse show on the market right now! The best part is – that all the characters in this show are able to live “vicariously” through one another by being able to experience one another’s culture, ethnicity and history. There is Sun Bak in Seoul, Capheus in Nairobi, Wolfgang in Berlin, Will in Chicago, Lito in Mexico City, Nomi in San Francisco, Riley in England, and Kala in Mumbai. (What a treat!)
This is the probably the only time in TV history, that diversity is being discovered first hand and we as viewers get the front row seat to this very powerful screening.

2 ALL THAT MUSH

Corny as it may sound, Sense8 is a show that is about the relationships and connections we form with the people around us. It’s a universal theme that we can all relate so well to, and it’s what makes this show so captivating, far beyond the growing mystery of its assumption. Not only can the sensates see each other’s past, they can feel it all too, as if it is their own! It’s almost as if this show has a sort of transcendent magic, the way it can beautifully capture the past and express pure pain. It all feels so real that, through each other’s stories, not only can the sensates feel it, but it’s so powerful that the viewers nearly can as well. With exceedingly sincere displays of empathy and emotion, Sense8 is far more than just a TV series!

3 JAM PACKED ACTION

When it comes to action, Sense8 is the show to watch when wanting to be consumed by their electrifying fight scenes. Well, part of being a sensate also signifies that these eight characters can essentially inherit each other’s physical and intellectual abilities – leading to some great action scenes throughout. What is so brilliant about these fight scenes in this show is – how all these characters can draw from each others contrasting skills, all while working as a team. Well who wants to miss out on “Wachowski-style” action sequences?

4 MAGIC OF MUSIC

Music is unquestionably a “universal language” and Sense8 demonstrates this interpretation over and over again, beautifully. There have been a few times in this show when the characters have connected so extraordinarily through music, through a particular song that illustrates their current situations perfectly. In these “musically inspired” moments, there is truly “magic” in the making. The delightful realization of connection through music, that brings each of the characters together with synchronicity – makes everyone, even the viewers (who don’t possess these same mind powers), comprehend that there is true connection between these people, through music, and through their abilities. With 73 songs to jive to, Sense8 is more than just a modern fantasy! Its a melody!

So there you have it folks – details of my fascination with the Sense8 series!

The Wachowskis, undoubtedly, have found a way to lay a very simple foundation in a very intricate and complex idea. When you watch the show, you feel intrigued and touched by the power that these “sensates” have to a level where you can’t help but “binge watch!” This is a whole new exploration of the human experience, less sci-fi and more modern fantasy. Trust me, it’s no easy task to weave together that many story arcs together but Sense8 does it in such a way you care about every single one of them!
With a slogan of “YOU ARE NO LONGER JUST YOU” – This show is powerful, overwhelming and an intriguing science fiction “drama” with a very interesting and varied bunch of characters. Shot in 9 different cities around the world, with cast as vibrant and divergent as their characters – it’s impossible not to find something to fall in love with!
