Little Joys Of Life

“Treat everyone with politeness and kindness, not because they are nice, but because you are.”
― Roy T. BennettThe Light in the Heart

Hey Everyone! How you doin’?

Today is a happy, happy day for me! I cheerfully declare my first “successful rescue” since moving to Memphis! (Ah, the little joys of life!) For the one’s who don’t know me – well yes, I have been a crazy*** animal lover all my life and the endeavor of rescuing animals has always been super close to my heart! *See an animal – jump right at it* (in a friendly way of course!)

Everyone meet – “eena”, “meena”, “myna”, “mo” – the adorable “fur-balls” of LOVE – successfully saved, efficiently fostered and waiting to be triumphantly adopted!

Cuteness Overload!

Fantastic Four – “eena”, “meena”, “myna”, “mo”!

4 little kittens – abandoned, unattended and alone – a sight that I can never ignore! Well, what do you do when you find yourself in a position where you have to look out for others and take a stand? Umm, a person like me, jumps right into the middle of the action and does what is required!

It wasn’t an easy task convincing my huz to be my “partner in crime” specially since (a) we knew nothing about animal rescues in Memphis per say (since we’ve just moved here), (b) he is scared of cats, dogs (or anything that moves, bites and has claws!), (c) being sick and down with “Flu B” virus ourselves we didn’t deem us to be the perfect “fostering” candidates for the litter. Nevertheless, an hour later with a few (or many) anxious failed attempts to reach various rescues in town (it was too early for them to be open for business) – the kittens were safely “sunbathing” in our sun-room, fed and cleaned!

There’s a critical period in kitten development – between four and 14 weeks of age – when a kitten’s personality, motor, and social skills are shaped by his or her experiences and we wanted these experiences for them to be the best. With the kind of weather conditions (rains, thunderstorms) and the presence of other “alpha male tomcats” in our locality, and no mother to fend for them – we knew what we had to do. Post thoughtfulness, we finally homed on to one of my huz’s colleagues, Buck, who we knew loved cats and could help us with finding a fostering place/rescue organization. Not to our surprise, Buck was ready to help and assist and within a day or two, and after thorough medical tests dismissing any feline diseases and AIDS – the kittens were successfully fostered by – Colette – the fostering “superSTAR!” Thanks to GERMANTOWN ANIMAL SHELTER our little friends had a hope to survive and thrive!

Well, these little ones will need a minimum of 4 weeks in foster (most likely a little longer) to gain strength and sturdiness before they go for adoption to homes that they so deserve! *hint-hint*
Ah, seeing how good all the kittens seem to be doing warms our heart every single day and we have our fingers crossed, hoping for the best lives for them – filled with  boundless care, attention and love. It is so satisfactory to know that even tough we did not have the means to fend for the needy, but we still managed to find out a resolution that suited everyone the best, with a dividend of kittens being healthy, alive and well taken care of. Who knows where they might have ended up if we hadn’t done what we did? (And yeah, that’s a scary thought!)

To all my wonderful friends  – there are many animals still sitting behind bars, waiting to be loved! Abandoned, surrendered, lost – these animals need a “hooman” to call their own and a “fur-ever” home to feel safe in! Please, please, please visit your local shelter before you shop for a pet and give them a shot a life. Find you “paw-fect” match at your local shelter and salvage a life! And for the ones who cannot adopt, there are a zillion ways to help! Volunteer your time, step forward to create awareness, sign up for “humane” drives or offer your services at the local shelter. Remember, “No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted!”

PS – This happened almost about 2 weeks ago (and I was waiting for this story to take positive turn before I could write about it!) I am so glad it did! *happy dance*

Here’s to saving a life or two!

Love,

  1. Thank you for giving these little ones a chance. They are darling. If i lived near Memphis I would sign up to give one a furrever home. But I am too far away. I think they will find homes though.

  2. You and your “partner in crime” did an amazing thing, helping these little guys and giving them a chance. They are absolutely gorgeous, and you’re so right about visiting shelters and going this route if you’re looking to give an animal(s) a home because they need and deserve the love a forever home can offer. Can’t help but “awww” at this post! 🙂

  3. They are all so cute. You’ve done a wonderful deed by helping them out. I have 2 dogs and both are adopted so I completely understand the need to jump in and help when required.

  4. No wonder you’re being nominated for everything on the planet. You have such a big heart, and everyone is trying to fill it up; with love! You say that this world is a better place because of people like me. Look in the mirror, that kind of reflection is looking you right in the heart! 👍🏾👌🏽😊
