8 Ways To Cultivate Positive Thinking

“You are what you think. All that you are arises from your thoughts. With your thoughts you make your world.”
Buddha

Life is a constant challenge with numerous twists and turns. From as minute as the “early morning coffee spill” on your favorite white shirt, to as grave as a “break-up” to as heart-breaking as “when your pet dies” – Ah, such is life and the agony that comes along with it!
There is no doubt that we all want to break free from the “so-called” miseries of life and be perfect! As a matter of fact, we all ARE constantly seeking perfection and non-stop improvement, hoping for optimum outcomes and premium returns. Always, wishing for this and hoping for that!
Ummmm.. Well who doesn’t want to improve their lives? (I know that I want to!)

But wait! STOP! Are you sure that this pain of attaining “perfection” is not-self inflicted? Are you the one stealing your own joy? Are you creating your own miseries?

FACT

Well folks, life goes-on and there is actually not much that you can do about it. Period! What you can control however, is how you “react” and “respond” to everything that life throws at you! Yes Sir, your attitude determines how you live your life! Always remember – even if, at any given time you feel that your alternatives of action are limited, your choices regarding your attitude are not!
Believe me, not only is this “negative attitude” preventing you from fully enjoying your life but also making you the kind of person that no one likes to be with!

GOOD NEWS

It’s simple guys! The power to make you feel better, happier, and excited about life is in your own mind – through positive thinking and attitude. The key is to change your entire outlook by training your mind to see things in a new light. I agree that its a long way to go and alter what you’ve been doing for years, but it’s totally worth your peace of mind and happiness!

Here is my personal prescription for developing a POSITIVE MINDSET –

1. CHOOSE YOUR TRIBE WISELY

Your are what your tribe is! Part of cultivating a positive mindset is by surrounding yourself with people who do the same. Find people who make you feel good about yourself and avoid those who tend to trigger your negative reasoning. Join on-line groups and go to networking or social events focused on personal growth and development and ditch negative social circle for good. “You are the sum of the five people with whom you spend the most time.” – Be smart and make wise choices!

2. TAKE RESPONSIBILITY

When you accept the responsibility of your life and learn to focus on the things which you can control, you will find it very easy to avoid making excuses when things go downhill. You have to shift from “victim-mode” to “creator-mode” and own it up. Don’t let your fears run the show pals! It is your life, make it worthwhile. Believing that YOU are in control and what matters is your undying faith in yourself and your actions – is the key to your happiness, contentment and success.

3. MAINTAIN A GRATITUDE DIARY

Remember, an attitude of gratitude can go a very long way in making you the person that you want to be! Noticing the positive things that happen in your everyday life has been proven to be a successful method of increasing your positive thinking and for boosting your “sunniness”. Try writing down 5 things that you feel grateful for every day and see how your attitude changes. A gratitude journal not only gives you the opportunity to notice, acknowledge and be appreciative for the positive people and things in your life but also increases your happiness, and protects you from stress, negativity, anxiety and depression. Be thankful and start acknowledge the “little joys of life!”

4. BE HELPFUL AND CONSIDERATE

Being of help to someone is a great way to boost your mood, and you might also find that you feel better about yourself after you do something particularly sympathetic for someone else. It becomes easy to develop a positive mindset when you’re looking for new ways to make someone else’s situation better coz when you are focusing on the good, it naturally becomes difficult to focus on the bad! Volunteer, enlist, enroll – to help other people (and animals) and change how you view the world and yourself. Thinking about someone else’s happiness will help us in realizing the immense impact that our attitude and expression has on the people and environment around us.

5. ADOPT A HEALTHY LIFESTYLE

Sometimes all it takes is a good, lengthening stretch to feel like your happiest self. Stretching your muscles can lead to good posture, better blood flow and ultimately more confidence! A walk in the park, a nice work-out session at the gym, a cycling trip to the near-by trail – whatever works to ease your consciousness! There is no doubt that – a healthy body will support a healthy mind and hence, work that body out!

6. POSITIVE SELF TALK

Positive self talk makes you feel good about yourself and the things that are going on in your life. It’s like having an optimistic voice in your head that always looks on the bright side. Remember, if you keep telling yourself you’re not good, regularly – you might just start believing it, even though it’s not true – augmenting your disappointment in yourself. Try countering your negative thoughts with positive ones. Believe in yourself! By working on replacing negative self-talk with more positive self-talk, you’re more likely to feel in control of stuff that’s going on in your life and to achieve your goals.

7. UPLOAD POSITIVISM TO YOUR BRAIN

Change your attitude for the better by uploading as much positivity into your brain as you possibly can. Read books with a positive message, listen to music with uplifting lyrics, and watch movies which portrays optimism, confidence and encouragement. Abstain from all “bad news” and deliberately seek for happiness. Hold onto the stories of modern-day heroes and selflessness in the times of fear and devastation.

8. RE-FRAME YOUR CHALLENGES

What “Re-framing” does is that – it helps in identifying the unhelpful thoughts and replaces them with more positive or adaptive ones. Think of life not as something that’s happening to you, but as something that’s happening for you. Look at any challenging situation, person, or event as a teacher that’s been brought into your life to teach you something. Have fun with challenges, embrace them as adventures instead of attempting to resist an experience for growth.

  4. I’ve been a bit busy in my study from a couple of days, so I couldn’t read your blog but I had added it to My Likes. And today, I gave a special time to read your this one blog as I’ve captured by the title.
Your inscribed 8 ways are certainly true and inspiring. Personally speaking, your first one I experienced very closely in my life and still experiencing it (I mean, being writing this comment). Our ambience matters a lot. When I’m in my home, I feel negativity in my head because of the criticizing attitude of my family towards me. But when I’m far away from them, I’m just in the cloud of positive thoughts or when I’m even alone or spending time with my music.
I was a heap of negativity a couple of years ago, but God taught me the reality of life and changed my attitude. The home was same that time as it is today, but my mind has changed now. I reflect all of the shots they blow on me unlike the 2 years before situation, when I used to admit them as true and believe them blindly.
Your post is really inspiring and cleanly written. People like me, must need this kind of stuff to read!
    Thank you so much! ❤

    1. I am so proud of you! It is not easy to get rid of the demons, specially when they are at your home!(been there, done that) – and breaking free of the shackles of negativity and looking at the brighter side of life is one courageous act!
I agree, there will be challenges but the trick is to IGNORE all the hostility and “nay-sayers” and believe in your self worth! YOU ARE THE BEST!
Wish you all the best for a sparking future! Never say never! 🙂

Thank you so much for all the love! 🙂
