Hey Everyone! Happy happy Sunday y’all!
This is the third (and the last) of 3 days, 3 Quotes Tag for which I was nominated by Jovita from Balancing Life With Jovtia.
MY QUOTE FOR DAY 3
“Whenever you feel like criticizing any one.. just remember that all the people in this world haven’t had the advantages that you’ve had.”
– The Great Gatsby
ABOUT THE BOOK
The Great Gatsby is a 1925 novel written by American author F. Scott Fitzgerald that follows a cast of characters living in the fictional town of West and East Egg on prosperous Long Island in the summer of 1922. The story primarily concerns the young and mysterious millionaire Jay Gatsby and his quixotic passion and obsession for the beautiful former debutante Daisy Buchanan. Considered to be Fitzgerald’s magnum opus, The Great Gatsby explores themes of decadence, idealism, resistance to change, social upheaval, and excess, creating a portrait of the Jazz Age or the Roaring Twenties that has been described as a cautionary tale regarding the American Dream. The novel has resulted in a number of film and television adaptations – The Great Gatsby (1926), by Herbert Brenon , The Great Gatsby (1949), by Elliott Nugent, The Great Gatsby (1974), by Jack Clayton , The Great Gatsby (2000), by Robert Markowitz and the latest The Great Gatsby (2013), by Baz Luhrmann starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan, and Tobey Maguire.
MY TAKE ON THE QUOTE
It’s unfair to criticize others about (anything) without considering the circumstances that they’ve been through in life. Not everyone one is as “blessed” as you might be and it’s erroneous to hold everyone in one light. We all have different backgrounds, come from varied histories and have dissimilar upbringings – and discerning someone without understanding where they come from – is plain, simple immoral!
In short, never judge someone without knowing their whole story. You may think you understand, but you don’t! – “Cause where you see it from where you’re sitting.. It’s probably 110% different”

An excellent quote from one of my favorite novels. The lyrical prose is to die for. Alas, it has not translated well onto the screen, IMO.
I agree! The book had far more potential and reach than the movie(s)! 😊

I love this quote, right from the beginning of the book! My other favorite part is when they’re crossing the Queensborough Bridge, which is all about the social upheaval you mentioned.
