Naked Truth!

Hey Everyone! I hope y’all had a wonderful weekend!

It’s time to kill the “Monday Blues” with some Real Talk and SELF REALIZATION!

While I was callously looking around for something “substantial” to read on FaceBook this weekend (wonder what are the chances of dong that! LOL!), I stumbled across a captivating story about “NAKED TRUTH” by John Van Zeist. Predictably (without a doubt), as soon as I read the story, I had a deep urge inside of me to share it on my blog – for y’all to read. Because YES in all honesty, this story really-really hits home for all of us!

TRIGGER WARNING – This article, or the page that it links to, contains an image that might be unacceptable to some. I apologize, but “blurring” out the image did not feel quite right as I wanted this post to be as true as the original one, without any reformations and fixings.

“TRUTH COMING OUT OF HER WELL” JEAN-LÉON GÉRÔME, 1896.

The painting tells the story of when the Truth and the Lie met one day.

The Lie said to the Truth: "It's a marvelous day today"!

The Truth looked up to the skies and sighed,
for the day was really beautiful.
They spent a lot of time together,
ultimately arriving beside a well.

The Lie said to the Truth: "The water is very nice, let's take a bath together!"

The Truth, once again suspicious,
tested the water and discovered that it indeed was very nice.
They undressed and started bathing.

Suddenly, the Lie came out of the water,
put on the clothes of the Truth and ran away.
The furious Truth came out of the well and ran everywhere to find the Lie
and to get her clothes back.

The World, seeing the Truth naked,
turned its gaze away, with contempt and rage.

The poor Truth returned to the well and disappeared forever,
hiding therein, its shame.

Since then, the Lie travels around the world, dressed as the Truth,
satisfying the needs of society,
because, the World, in any case, harbors no wish at all to meet the "Naked Truth!"

The expression refers to a widespread translation of an aphorism of the philosopher Democritus, “Of truth we know nothing, for truth is in a well [lit. in an abyss].”

So folks, what do y’all think? Have we regretfully turned into a world where the truth hides in shame? Or are we so self-righteous about ourselves that we refuse to distinguish between the vices? Have we as a society closed our eyes to what lies defenseless and exposed before us? Or is it just too convenient for us to follow the camouflaged facade? Well, the questions are abundant and the doubts a plentiful. What might seem horrid for now, could be the truth that is waiting to be “exposed” and what “glitters” like gold, might be just a distortion of straightforwardness?

So there you have it friends – “naked truth?” or “lie dressed up as truth?” – It’s on us to decide and pick our sides!

Leaving y’all with a thought that might or might not provoke you to stand by the “forthrightness!” Peace!

Love,

  1. First of all, I love hearing “y’all” in my head… I miss that! This was a great poem, and I wonder if it may trigger something similar in me to write sometime. How sad but true this work really is… Especially today. We know the devil works like this and one day will pull the wool over so many eyes to make himself look like “Truth”, but it’s good to know and be suspicious when it seems too good to be true about anything. Especially that! Have a great day, and thank you so much for sharing!

    1. I would love to read about your take on this poem! 🙂

Thank you so much for penning the essence of this piece so beautifully.. I agree to it 100%! ❤

      1. Okay… A few obvious thoughts then a few perhaps not so obvious.

        – Misdirection through compliments to achieve a deceptive goal
        – Truth, cloaked in nakedness, is seen as indiscrete and, therefore, obscene.
        – Truth, while an innocent victim, is embarrassed by the conviction of general
society and gives up and hides.
        – Lie, cloaked in truth’s life, unabashedly saunters around to continue “her”
deception as no one questions her “virtue.”
        – Why is “Lie” depicted as a woman?
        – Is this some reference to the Garden of Eden and Lie is actually the Serpent now cloaked in “Truth’s clothing?”

Those are my thoughts and notes upon rereading the poem. Deep, right? Ha

        1. Wow, these are “BOMB” if I must say! Excellent thought-provoking questions that string your heart and mind!

          Profound for sure! 🙂

  2. Important questions worthy of contemplation!❤️ I feel that politics are messy (not just government politics) and filled with many camouflaged lies that so many accept with out question because the bare naked truth is to uncomfortable to address.

Richa an amazing share that’s truly relatable!❤️❤️

  3. Wonderful post. My thought is “the truth” is as varied as the number of inhabitants in universe. This being so leads to much manipulation of “the truth”. The naked truth is when the soul is bared and it then become a truth.🙏❤

  4. This is a quite a profound piece. and you have really put an important questions.People indeed todays are satiated by the false truth rather than be confronted by the naked truth. Cause its bold, stirs you deep inside and not everybody has the guts to hold its gaze.

    1. “The truth.” Dumbledore sighed. “It is a beautiful and terrible thing, and should therefore be treated with great caution.”
― J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone

Sadly, as you’ve said, we aren’t brave enough to face the “hard-hitting” reality!

Thank you so much for reading Megha!❤️

  5. What a magnificent piece. This is exactly what life has become, lies marauding as truth and truth being shunned away, it’s just unfortunate that we have become so comfortable with lies to a point where truth becomes a rare sighting.
This is truly marvellous Richa ❤️❤️

    1. “Men occasionally stumble over the truth, but most of them pick themselves up and hurry off as if nothing ever happened.”
      ― Winston S. Churchill

Thank you so much for stopping by sweetheart!❤️

  6. It was something worth reading really…….a very thought provoking post and so nicely written………. amazing……………….really I wanted to read more of it.

It’s true that we are living in the world of lies…………………where lie is crowned and have power over everything and truth has always been projected as harsh and scary………………….

    Very well written…….nice work.

    1. “A lie can travel half way around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes.”
      ― Mark Twain

Thank you so much for reading!❤️

      1. I don’t know why it Sounds much more better when we lie because in reality, if we lie and don’t speak the truth then it is we who are naked or ashamed to not tell the truth. Thanks for sharing such an wonderful article but everyone once have lied, so we were 😉…
        Keep writing though….

      1. Oh dear I am not going to write post about it. I just told it created many thoughts about our society what we are running behind in our life like marks, money, success seems like truth but originally not. It is a story have to be remembered for life. It clears our understanding about life. Thank you so much for sharing.

        1. Oh, I understand you now! You are so right – this topic opens too many floodgates of doubts and questions!🙋
          Glad this resonated with you!❤️

  7. the truth is now ugly just as nakedness became something to hide… knowledge hidden behind the lie of mystery revealed…. only tainted the eyes and made that which is lovely become something to be ashamed of…. this truly is well written and provoking.

  8. Love this fable. It is very relevant for our time with the line between truth and lies has become blurred. You might enjoy reading the book People of the Lie by Scott Peck. Thank you. I hope no one was offended by the picture. It didn’t bother me.
