Vacation Of A Lifetime – In Other Words

iScriblr_vacation

The only way to keep her alive was to abandon her at an orphanage gate;
she was a girl, born in a masculist clan, where her gender decided her fate.

Dumped and shunned from the day she was born,
she instantly learnt that it's not easy being a woman in this man's world;
she vouched that no bigotry, no dogmatism, can leave her crippled,
that she would one day rise up, turn tables and change labels.

Years and years of trails and tribulations have transformed her
into a woman of substance, so wise.

She's fought her battles, slayed her cynics, she has prosperously survived.

Gifting herself a perfect "vacation" on her 25th birthday,
that she so rightly deserves - this is a story of a champion,
who in the face of flouters refused to give up!

This post is in response to In Other Words by Patricia’s Place – where write a story or poem of 5 lines or less using the prompt word.

This weeks prompt is “vacation” and this attempt of mine is to draw some attention to a prevalent (since ages) social evil – “female infanticide” – which is the deliberate killing of newborn female children, also described as gender-selective killing or “gendercide”. Surprisingly, it is found in both indigenous and sophisticated cultures around the world and is not restricted to just the uneducated/illiterate population. Occurring as a way of anti-female bias, caste or culture, or for restricting poverty and poor standards of living caused by over population, “female infanticide” has now surged to a level where a girl child, if not already killed in the womb, is thrown into rivers or onto rubbish piles, suffocated, starved or even sold!
I hereby urge everyone to lend a hand and raise awareness against this evil practice, and help save a “girl child!” Let us all vow to change the “mindset” and make this world a better place to live in for the entire “human race”.

“Daughter, Sister, Friend, Wife, Mother – When you kill a girl you kill many others!”

  1. i thought this barbaric acts were against the law worldwide. I mean, i know they existed until less than a century ago, but there are laws now a days, human rights that counts these acts as murder.

    1. It’s a sad state of affairs where “law” doesn’t stop “evil” from happening!🤐

      Here are a few stats (from Gender Awareness Project) –
      – Demographers estimate that 126 million women are missing due to female gendercide (also called femicide).
      – That’s more deaths than WWI and WWII  combined.
      – Every year, we lose 3.5 million women and girls to gendercide. That’s 400 females per hour.
      – In China alone, 62 million women are missing. That amounts to 9.5% of its female population. India is missing 7.4% of its female population.
