Tsunami In Memphis

Hey Everyone! Happy FRIYAY!

Well, it’s been a while that I have written about my travel antics and reviews on restaurants and eating joints. Thanks to the “not-so friendly weather” and “busy work-life balance” I have been all in-doorsy and hibernating, saving up on much-needed body warmth and eagerness! But when it is your 2nd Marriage Anniversary, you dress up, look your dapper best and step-out! And where do you go? Somewhere fancy! Someplace alluring! (Hint! Hint!)

Best Seafood, Most Creative Menu, Best Chef, Best Restaurant! Yes, that is Tsunami for you and that’s where we went to commemorate our wedding anniversary! (Oh yes, when your hubby takes you out for dinner at one of the best restaurants in town, you FLAUNT!)

Tsunami, the brainchild of Chef Ben Smith – who is the owner and executive chef, opened its doors on July 14, 1998. The inspiration for this culinary masterpiece came from Smith’s travels to New York, California, Tahiti, New Zealand, Australia, and Hawaii – creating, one-of-a-kind dining spot in Memphis, making it a “must-visit” place for locals and visitors alike! Well known for an innovative culinary style influenced by his extensive travels in the Pacific Rim, Smith and Tsunami are every Memphian’s delight and pride.

Aptly as the name suggests, this place is a “Tsunami” of flavors, character and experience! With exposed brick walled interiors, warm cozy candle-lit ambiance, cool decor, an upscale urban aura, great menu featuring fresh seasonal ingredients and an excellent wine selection – Tsunami sure did feel like the right place to be at, for our celebrations! The service was spot on with pleasant, friendly staff who was super knowledgeable and the food, that was sumptuous! A concoction of Asian and French influence makes everything taste delightful and toothsome! (Undoubtedly, it is the best sea food restaurant in town!)

Food/Drinks ordered – Wasabi deviled eggs from the Izakaya Menu, Sizzling garlic-chile Shrimp from the Appetizers Menu, Roasted salmon with pineapple stir-fry, sweet chile sauce, vegetable eggroll & jasmine rice and Spice crusted tuna with stir fried strawberries & jasmine rice from the Small Plates Menu washed away with a bottle of Bellula Pinot Noir. For the desserts it was my favorite Vanilla bean creme brulee.

Overall, it was an amazing experience with everything from the Izakaya to the Dessert – tasting awesome! Appetizing, delectable and palatable – the food undeniably was to die for. Open from Monday to Saturday between 5:30 PM to 10 PM and located at 928 S. Cooper Street with their own parking lot, Tsunami is a real gem of Memphis, promising great times and appeased taste-buds. Recommended for cozy-romantic dinners, guests from close and afar and for an upscale dinner with your family, it is a return for sure! At a price of $130 (including tip), we were a cheery, well-fed couple, appeased with the service, the quality of food and of course the ambiance!
