How I Deal With Stress

We all feel stress in our lifetime! Dismally, stress is an inevitable part of our lives and there is nothing much that we can do about it, other than to stand up against it and fight back. There could be better days, there could be good days and on other days you are a chaos!

FACTS

Approximately, 1 out of 75 people may experience panic disorder (as per National Institutes of Mental Health). About 80% of workers feel stress on the job and nearly half say that they need help in learning how to manage stress and 42% say their co workers need such help (according to American Institute of Stress). Shockingly, “depression” is among the leading causes of disability worldwide! (data from World Health Organization). In a recent Nielsen survey of 6,500 women across 21 different nations, it was found out that, the Indian women are the most “stressed” in the world today! (According to “Women of Tomorrow”)

Now apparently, a little bit of stress is reasonable! However, no one deserves to be dogged down and cornered in perpetuity. It is unhealthy, with long-term effects like – anxiety, depression, weight gain, heart diseases and nervous issues.

Well, for me, as soon as my stress levels rise just a little too much (reasons could be as trifle as worrying about what to cook at a family dinner to as grave as someone’s demise), my natural reaction is to panic. I freak out and get anxious (and even cry!) Guess, that is my innate response to anything demanding. Furthermore, my complete body goes into a state of shock with adrenaline pumping frivolously! (Trust me, its loathsome!)

GOOD NEWS

With time, over the years (and with oodles of practice), I have gotten a little better at managing my stress levels and have developed a few tips and tricks to cope. It was high time that I took the controls of choosing how to react to a situation and “DE-STRESS!”

The first thing I do is, that I allow myself to feel every emotion fully! I let it all out. I think, i rethink and eventually, I let it all go! Personally, I feel that it is very important for us to connect to our emotions, because by doing that, we release the unwanted “toxic thoughts” harbored in our minds (at that moment) and its easier for us to not manifest stress any longer. In addition, I also pen down my “stressors” in order to get a clear picture of their futuristic effects on me. The moment you realize that this is just a temporary phase, which will eventually end and not matter to you in another 5 hours, you give yourself a sense of peace! When you have emotionally and futuristically deciphered the “stress” and gained clarity, it becomes easier to be not bothered about it any longer.

MUSIC is another huge part of how I deal with managing my stress. Listening to music (and humming along) has undoubtedly helped me cope with many a doubts and troubles! Scientifically, its been proven that music has a beneficial positive effect on our mind and body – lowering our blood pressure, decreasing the levels of stress hormones, slowing our heart rate/pulse rate and acting as a distraction. For me, music makes me a little better equipped with dealing with life issues and stress. My go-to place for music is SoundCloud – which is a music and podcast streaming platform that lets you listen to millions of songs from around the world, or upload your own.(It is easy to work on, with many alternatives).

“Digital Detox” is another stress buster for me. No internet! No phones! Trust me, it just makes your life a little simpler, where, you are more focused on just your family and close friends (and most importantly, yourself!)

Lastly, I try to remind myself that somethings happen for a reason and sometimes, we need to just trust ourselves and believe that everything is going to be OK!

Let me know how you all manage your stress? A hobby, meditation, a walk in the park – what works for you?

Love,

  4. Very nice post!💗 Indian women huh? Didn’t really see that coming….
I usually deal with social insecurities not really stress… I lock myself in the washroom and cry out loud and clear. It might sound cowardly but it actually helps because I let my feelings out and never let them in again
    Thanks for this!💜 Have a nice day💕
