Hopdoddy Burger Bar

Hey everyone! I hope y’all are going great!

I am back again with my sightseeing antics and reviews on restaurants and eating joints! *woot woot*

Another weekend, another great find! This time, our “hunt” for vegetarian food in Memphis, got us to another “amazing” burger place – called the Hopdoddy Burger Bar! Yes, you heard me right, HBB is in Memphis! For foodies like us (Me and my Huz) this was an opportunity that we grabbed at, with both our hands and forks. Well, to be honest, burger + bar in one sentence did the trick for us and there we were, binging!
Brain-child of Villavaso and his longtime business partner Larry Foles, Hopdoddy Burger Bar aims at crafting a social experience where guests could wait in the line with a locally crafted beer or frozen margarita in hand as their burger is created in front of them. *shibby, right*
The name Hopdoddy is a combination of hops, a key ingredient in beer making, and “doddy,” a Scottish nickname for cows. This combination of beer and beef has garnered a lot of attention in six years, and HBB has being named one of the “Best Burgers in America” by both Food & Wine and Every Day with Rachael Ray. With a “scratch-kitchen” where every burger is ground fresh to order and all buns are baked from scratch on site, to only antibiotic- and hormone-free meat usage and a full bar in every location – Hopdoddy Burger Bar is more than just a regular burger joint.

Food/Drinks ordered –  LA BANDITA BURGER, THE IMPOSSIBLE BURGER with a few glasses of SPARKLING PAMPLEJOUSSE (Deep Eddy Ruby Red Grapefruit, Torres ‘De Casta’ Rosé, Rhubarb)and 3 WHISKEY L.I.T (Jameson, Old Forester, Wild Turkey, Camarena Reposado, Pierre Ferrand Dry Curacao, Cola, Lime).

THE IMPOSSIBLE BURGER – Impossible Meat (made entirely of plants; contains gluten), Tillamook Cheddar, Sassy Sauce, Lettuce, Tomato, White Onion with Fries.

With a menu so varied and heterogeneous, there is something to relish and devour for everyone. THE IMPOSSIBLE BURGER was super flavorsome and moist, just the way it should be, with the patty tasting heavenly. On the other hand, the LA BANDITA BURGER’s whole wheat bun was out of this world – soft and cooked to perfection, plus the burger was loaded with toppings! Only wish – if it could be a little more spicier, as for a “fire-eater” like me, it tasted a little bland. (Or may be, I chose the wrong one!) Thank God for the side salad with a “spicy kick” – It saved the day for me! Loved the environment and the bar too. The drinks were smooth and tasteful especially my SPARKLING PAMPLEJOUSSE which was buoyant and sparkling!
Unlike the long lines and exceedingly lengthy waiting stories that we’d heard about, the service was pretty quick and efficient. Also, the staff was very attentive and kept checking on us, offering refills and the chance to order more, which we did! Overall, it was an amazing experience with both our burgers tasting great and we really had a wonderful time.

  1. I have to say this has to look just as great as my cheesesteak post 😛. Love the review. Who wouldn’t be hungry after reading/seeing! 💕

  2. Oh my my ! What a description you have provided of the place and those enticing juicy burgers. My taste buds got tickled and my eyes are drooling with foodie’s lust 😀 .

  3. Looks like an awesome burger! Thanks for adding the burger review into the Tummy Tuesday blog hop. It’s interesting to me that people are now coming up with different ways to create a veggie burger. This is the first one I’ve seen with corn and beans.

    1. You are welcome!❤

I agree – there has been a lot of experimenting with “veggie” burgers recently and tbh, its a blessing for vegetarians like me coz I was so bored of just plain “black-beans” burger.. I guess, it is a good change! 😉

        1. Hahaha.. You definitely should! 😉

PS – It tastes (almost) like the non vegetarian ones but with all the “goodness” of a veggie plus you can make it vegan too at some places!

  4. We have a Hopdoddy’s in Nashville, too. We took The Girl, a real hamburger connoisseur, there for her 12th birthday. After wolfing down her burger, she exclaimed, “This must be what the food in heaven tastes like!” 😍😂
