Blues, Brews & Burgers

Hey everyone! I hope y’all have had a wonderful weekend?

Here we go again folks – I am back with my sightseeing antics and reviews on restaurants and eating joints! *woot woot*

Another weekend, another great find! Well, being vegetarians (periodic Pescatarians) it’s kind of tough to find out an eating place that caters to our ways in Memphis specially since it is known as “The Barbecued Pork Capital of the World!” and hence, we are always coursing around, looking for a joint that suits our taste. This time, our “hunt” got us to another “amazing” burger place – called the Huey’s!
Founded in 1970 by Alan Gary, Huey’s has been voted for “Best Burger” by Memphis Magazine every year since 1984! It has also been voted as “Best Pub Grub” and for “Best Beer Selection” in Memphis Magazine’s Readers Restaurant Poll. Famous for its “Huey Burger,” the chain operates 9 locations spread across the city! Well yes, it was a “must-do” in our “bingeing” list  and I am so glad that we were able to witness the “deliciousness” first hand!

Food/Drinks ordered – FRIED MOZZARELLA CHEESE STICKS (served with marinara sauce) , CHEESE TOTS WITH SCALLIONS, one VEGGIE – WORLD FAMOUS HUEY BURGER with FRIES, one SHRIMP PO-BOY and a few glasses of MIMOSAS.

With live music on Sundays, best local brews in town, fun of shooting frill tooth-picks in the ceiling (exciting!) and privilege of writing on the walls – Huey’s is indeed more than just a good burger place! Their menu offers 13 different burger choices, a variety of delicious sandwiches ranging from a grilled tuna fish sandwich to a Reuben, awesome salads and yummy homemade soups. *slurp*

FUN FACT – The chain also hosts a yearly “toothpick guessing contest” to benefit the Memphis Zoo. In a tradition started by Boggs (Huey’s was purchased by Thomas Boggs in 1976), customers pay $1 to guess how many toothpicks (which restaurant guests blow into straws to fire onto the ceilings) cover the ceilings. So cool, right?

Guess the number of tooth-picks on the celing? A million?

Overall, it was an amazing experience with everything ordered tasting absolutely delicious! Trust me, for vegetarians like us, it is such a relief to find a good eating joint that offers vegetarian options in Memphis, that are both delectable and satisfying, and Huey’s was able to hit that spot right for us! The FRIED MOZZARELLA CHEESE STICKS were to die for and the CHEESE TOTS were sumptuous. However, the best part was the WORLD FAMOUS HUEY VEGGIE BURGER – juicy, cooked to perfection, and loaded with toppings! SHRIMP PO-BOY (ordered by my Huz) was also super flavorful and cooked right!
Great food, excellent service, vibrant atmosphere and reasonably priced – Huey’s surely looks like a place that “we” would often visit for some good time, great eats and to shoot some “picks”!

          1. That’s easy. We’re down there several times a year. Have friends from when I lived there and family over in along Beach, MS. It’s a regular in our rotation. 😃

          2. Wow, lucky you! 😃

I have been there twice in 2 years and tbh, I fell in love with that place! (And would love to definitely settle there if I could!) 😉

          3. It’s terrific, and was my favorite city….until I visited Amsterdam. That’s now my fave, but New Orleans is a close second. 😃

  2. Salivating now 😍 it’s not nice to make people like me gain more weight Richa 😒 I am so tempted to eat a burger with some fries after seeing these pictures. I’ll end it by eating three scoops of chocolate ice cream or a big slice of chocolate cake 🍰 …
Oh…. and when I check my weight again, and see the extra kgs, I’ll know whom to blame 😝

    1. Hahaha.. That’s a good question! 😉

Though they take them down once a year and clean the “mess” up! Let’s hope for now that they don’t fall off that much! LOL! 🙂

    1. Yes, it was! Much needed, since we haven’t been able to get out the town for a while now! 😉

      Thanks for stopping by!❤️

  3. Hi happy tummy! This will probably be hard to believe… I’m not a foodie. 😔 Eat to live, don’t love to eat! Happy tummy, don’t hate, appreciate; the time I took to comment! 😁😁

    1. Haha.. No hate ever!😁😁

I am an occasional (weekend) foodie. On weekdays, it’s usually sensible/healthy eating!🙈

    1. Hahaha.. I agree! Thanks sweetie! 🙂

(I am not as good a cook like you, hence I have to “hunt” around for good food! LOL!) 😉 😛
